Friday getaway

I don't have anything in my schedule for Fridays... Although I am expected to put hours and hours of work into my studies, I decided to get away. Escaped reality for a day.

Ironically within this escape of work I found myself at an architecture seminar at the Victoria and Albert museum. Lasting from 13:30 until 16:30, I was actually inspired and moved every minute of it. It was all because I was in London - different atmosphere, enchanting vibe. Director of Arup talking about the White City project; their collab with Rem Koolhaus - one word - spectacular. All other speakers, knowledgeable and interesting.

Oxford and Regent street more vibrant than ever with the early Christmas lights. Perhaps the most beautiful form of light pollution. People leaving work, tourists snapping photos, women on the prawl for the 'it' dress, hipsters at Carnaby Street...

The pop up store at Carnaby was of particular interest. Environmental activists all together. Costumes, tshirts on sale to raise funds and awareness. Not to mention the yummy treats they had. It was a lovely opening. Make sure to check it out!

The train ride was tipsy. Giggles and rubbish talk. Rose had taken over. Dinner at Ozer was all worth it though, Ali nazik and kunefe... What more would a girl want?

Long time no see.

Hey everyone :) I have been so busy with university work... the curse of an architecture student.... and completely forgot the fact that I even had a blog. I also went through a phase where I absolutely forgot my username and password (I know it's quite bad). I am now back on the game through and have a lot of updates! The past month I got elected as the school representative of Kent School of Architecture, elected the events manager of the Turkish Soc, finally paid my sail and windaurf membership and organize my life via the very useful Palgrave student agenda. There is quite a lot going for me this month as it is THE month before the final design crit. I must say I am a fan of this year's project of designing a wellness center. Oh how much I would love to be in one right now! On the 29th, the new Crit space is opening next to the Marlowe and I received the most stylish invitation yesterday. I cannot wait to be one of the select few to be at the opening. I will start posting more about the work I am doing at school, finally have a post about my new flat and keep you up to date about my London adventures. As I am writing this I am going to a seminar at the V&A about architecture :) Also hoping to have bought west end tickets today for the first Sunday of the reading week coming up! Phantom of the Opera here I come :)

Fashion Week Heaven and Hell...

Now that NY, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks are over and designers have displayed what they have in store for us SS '13 it is about time the trends get reviewed and edited as to which ones will be the 'hits' and which ones ultimately miss...

I will start by looking at my all time favorites, and in a way polar opposites Dolce & Gabanna and Celine, the later a French brand which is closely linked with minimalistic elegance and the former known for splash of color in luxurious textures and playful accessories.

Dolce & Gabbana once again displayed the Sicilian elegance at the Milan Fashion Week showing a variety of designs mostly based on colorful stripes. The cropped bralet and high waisted skirt combination is with us to stay - so ladies eventhough SS '13 is far away, it is time belly toning starts!

The minis were not the only show stoppers, but also midi length flowy silk dresses with Sicilian folklore patterns...

The dresses made of printed sacs were also quite interesting. This is definitely something you wouldn't expect to see go down the runway. I am quite a fan of the headbands and the big statement earrings. The shoes are relatively minimalistic to counter balance the busy patterns used elsewhere.

In my opinion this collection shows the playful attitude of D&G (eventhough this line is no longer continued). There is the class of Dolce & Gabbana, but still enough youthful energy of D&G.

Moving onto my critique of the Celine catwalk - I am disappointed to say - I was crushed when I saw the designs. Compared to the previous collections this SS '13 is quite disappointing. I still like the feel of tailoring, but it has gone horribly wrong. This collection is risky and very difficult to pull off. In my personal opinion it isn't flattering at all. Moving on from the clothes to the accessories - what has happened here? No one will want to walk around in a pair of fuzzy yellow shoes even if it is spring and summer (and we know everything looks better during summer, but not those shoes). I am being so harsh because I actually LOVE Celine. I am just confused as to what happened this year. SS '12 was a great success!

A collection of shoes I will be avoiding at all costs. Too couture, cannot be worn. I'd be surprised if these shoes can even be pulled off for editorial shoots....

...Wake me up when September ends...

September was such an eventful month, filled with so many highlights! I can say with full confidence that it beat my entire summer vacation (okay maybe not really). Being back in Holland, seeing my friends, attending the first ever Amsterdam FNO... Followed shortly by my London Vodafone Fashion Weekend adventure with close friends... Besides the fashion related stuff, decorating my new flat was another highlight of this month. I can't wait to share how my place looks soon on the blog :) But for now, here are the belated LFW photos!

What I was wearing:
Coat - Burberry
Dress - Topshop
Necklace - Koton
Shoes - Yargici
Bag - Celine
I simply cannot keep a straight face in photos.

Omnomnoming

Watched the trend catwalk show which consisted of 3 trends.

Thomas from Et Ressurexit, make sure to check him out!

This was one of the more creative looks that I absolutely loved!

Two words. The. Shoes. Enough said.

Fellow fashionista styles on display.

Rise up to the sky, feel the sunshine :)

Everything is much more fun when you're with friends :)

Goodbye Somerset House, until SS13 :)
